Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen has been handed a two-match ban by authorities for his reaction foul in Napoli’s opening Serie A match this past weekend.
The former Lille star was sent off midway into the first half of Napoli’s 2-0 home win over Venezia on Sunday 22 August.
The Neapolitans made light work of playing three quarters of the match with a numerical disadvantage, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Lorenzo Insigne and Eljif Elmas.
Osimhen’s red card came as a result of striking out at Daan Heymans as they waited for a set play.
It has been described in the official report, as quoted by Football Italia, as “voluntarily striking an opposition player with a slap to the face while the ball was at a distance”.
The former VfL Wolfsburg player has been given a two-match Serie A ban, plus a €5,000 fine. This means he will miss Napoli’s match away to Genoa on Sunday 29 August and their key game at home to Juventus on 12 September, after the international break.
Osimhen, meanwhile, will have the chance to feature for Nigeria when they face Liberia on September 3 and Cape Verde on September 7 in their first two 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
