Super Eagles’ Victor Osimhen’s rich rein of form in the Italian Serie A with Napoli has seen him been named along with Real Madrid’s France international Karim Benzema as the most prolific striker in Europe for the month of September.
Only on Sunday, the Nigeria international striker scored his fourth goal in the 2-0 defeat against Cagliari in the Serie A to take his total haul in the on-going season to six in five matches across all competition after a brace against Leicester City in the Europa League in the period under review.
Elsewhere, Benzema’s six goals were all from La Liga following his hat-trick against Celta Vigo along with a goal against Valencia and a brace against Mallorca.
Also listed in the prolific strikers this September in Europe is Borussia Dortmund hit-man Erling Haaland who has a better minute-to-goal ratio, having scored five goals in just three games, followed by Christopher Nkunku of RB Leipzig who has managed five goals in four appearances across all competitions.
Genoa’s Mattia Destro is also among the most prolific strikers in Europe for September, with four goals in four appearances. Just as many as Cristiano Ronaldo.
The same goes for Inter‘s Edin Dzeko, who netted the same amount of goals as Destro in five games.
Meanwhile, Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti has shed light on why Osimhen was a second half substitute in the 2-0 win against Cagliari on Sunday, adding he was satisfied with the performance of his in-form striker despite being shown the yellow card in the 66th minute.
