Former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju, has faulted the recall of Odion Ighalo to the team by Coach Gernot Rohr.

The coach recently announced his decision to recall the striker who retired from the team about two years ago. But Ighalo is yet to give a response.

But speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the final of the 40th edition of the CBN Governor’s Cup played at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, the ex-Super-Eagle player said although Ighalo is a potent striker, there are younger players in the national team doing well in their clubs.

He said, “I like Ighalo as a player and he is a very good striker. He retired from the Super Eagles about two years ago and I believe we presently have strikers that are good enough in the team.

“But if he (Ighalo) is now recalled to do what the strikers are doing, well I don’t know the reason for that. We have Osihmen that is scoring very well in his club, we have Kelechi Iheanacho, Awoniyi and so many of them but what I’m saying is just my opinion.

“If we have players! Who are doing very well and scoring goals in their clubs, do we still have to recall Ighalo? It’s just my opinion.”
