Fayemi’s Govt Receives Sports Equipment From Old Students Of Christ School, Ado Ekiti

Equipment worth thousands of Naira were donated to the Ekiti State Sports Council by the 1984-1990 Alumni of the Christ School, Ado Ekiti.

The equipment included a set of computer and printer, mattresses; five packs of Tennis balls, five packs of two-in-one Tennis Rackets, eight batons, five packs of Table Tennis bats, Four packs of Badminton Shuttle cocks, 60 pieces of ping-pong ball, one badminton net, volley net, seven footballs, five basketballs and six volleyballs to assist in the development of Sports in the grassroots.

Receiving the donated items, the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi who was represented by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Michael Awopetu commended the association for their gesture and solicited the support of alumni associations of schools in the State for the State Sports Development Trust Fund to facilitate a rapid progress of Sports in the State.

Governor Fayemi who is an alumnus of the Christ School, Ado Ekiti, stressed that the gesture of the Alumni Association was worthy of emulation adding that the development would ease some of the challenges faced by the State Sports Council.

In his remarks, the Acting General Manager of the Ekiti State Sports Council, Mr. Adekunle Adeyemi who is also an alumnus of Christ School, Ado Ekiti, said that the donation was to support the efforts of the Fayemi led administration to develop Sports in the State.

Mr. Adeyemi expressed gratitude to his former schoolmates and assured that the equipment would be judiciously utilized for Sports development.

The Acting General Manager also solicited the support of public spirited individuals and corporate organizations all over the world for Sports development in the State by donating to the State Sports Development Trust Fund.

Adeyemi stressed the need to develop the future stars from the State, “we are soliciting the support of corporate organizations, individuals and philanthropists to sponsor the growing talents that we have in the State because Government cannot do it alone.”

“The State is seeking private-government partnership in developing sporting activities in our dear Ekiti State”, he said.

In his remarks, the President of the 1984-1990 Alumni of the Christ School, Ado Ekiti, Dr. Dotun Adetuberu commended the efforts of Government to develop sports and pledged to continue supporting efforts at improving sports in the State.

Noting that Sports promotes unity and fosters peace in the society, Dr. Adetuberu said that they considered it essential to contribute to its development in the State, adding that the association would also be interested in sponsoring sport competitions and giving scholarships to students that excel in sporting activities.
