The Alumni of prestigious Christ’s School, Ado Ekiti has honoured Governor Kayode Fayemi, the governor of Ekiti State and the celebrated poet, Prof. Niyi Osundare for their contributions to the development of the society.

The awards were presented during the commissioning of the School archive and museum which was donated by the 1967-71/73 Set.

According to the Chairman of the 50th Anniversary of Graduation Committee, Dr. Charles ‘Diji Akinola, the awards were giving in recognition of Dr Fayemi’s performance in leadership and governance, and Osundare’s academic and literary accomplishments.

Fayemi, while commenting the alumni for their bold move to document history, described the project as remarkable.

He urged other alumni and well-spirited members of the society to borrow a leaf from gesture.

“I must commend the “Union Set” of class of 1967-1971/1973 for choosing this invaluable project that binds us all. If we all give back ‘little-by-little’, this will rekindle what this school used to be and a brand new school where we can all send our children to will emerge.

“So what you are doing is worthy of emulation. This project is an excellent vision. Thank you very much for not forgetting our Alma Mata.

“One thing that binds us all is the tradition of excellence, honour, respect and discipline, and this we must uphold,” Gov. Fayemi said.

In his address, the Chairman of the 50th Anniversary of Graduation of the Union Set, 1967,1971/1973, of Christ School, Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Charles ‘Diji Akinola said the archive and museum project was borne out of the conviction to preserve, re-enact and showcase the rich history and tradition of Christ School.

“For many of us, Christ School is the bed rock of who we are , all we have accomplished and all we will forever be.

“While this anniversary deservedly affords us an opportunity to rekindle old ties, it equally challenges us to reflect on the glory of this great citadel of learning and to give back to this great school that has given so much to us.

The President of the Set, Ayodele Dada, who presented the Phase II of the project, which includes the proposed Quadrangle Complex, to the Governor and other dignitaries, noted that the projects was a deliberate plan to preserve the rich heritage of the School.

“This will serve as a repository of diverse historical items that have defined and shaped the lives of the students and teachers of the institution across the ages,” Dada said.

Dignitaries at the event included, the Speaker, Ekiti House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye; the Secretary to Ekiti Government, Mr. Abiodun Oyebanji; former Ekiti Deputy Governor, Prof. Modupe Adelabu; the  traditonal ruler of Imesi-Ekiti, Oba Festus Olatunde, the Onimesi of Imesi-Ekiti, and a 94 year-old former  Mathematics teacher of the School, Chief Francis Daramola.
