During the week, an upcoming Nigerian politician, Ajao Musa Bolaji stormed the corporate headquarters of Parrot Xtra Media Network. He was engaged by DARE RAJI. During the interaction, he spoke of his aspiration and why he decided to join politics among other issues… Excerpts below:
Can our readers meet you?
I am Ajao Musa Bolaji from Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo state. I graduated from the Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta.
Why did you decide to join the mainstream politics?
I started my foray into politics during my school days at the Federal College of Education, Osiele. I acted as the financial secretary of the Federation of Ibadan Students Union (FIBSU) and I participated actively in the Federation of Oyo State Students Union (FOSSU), Ogun state zone. After graduating from school in 2014, I decided to venture into politics and I contested as a councilor but I did not win at the primary level.
I believe that youths must be given the opportunity to participate in politics because leadership is not about fame or wealth, rather it is about somebody willing to serve. The likes of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dr Nmamdi Azikiwe served the country without enriching their pocket.
This is why I always appreciate the governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde. Permit me to use this opportunity to implore all and sundry to continue to cooperate with him. He has a genuine desire to do his best to make Oyo State better.
What are you currently aspiring to do?
Presently, I am working to create an application and a digital platform whereby youths will have an opportunity to socialize and discuss relevant issues as it affects the country. This application will enable unemployed youths to interact and socialise among other benefits. The application will enable its users to generate account, upload and download relevant materials according to their needs. I will also work harder to make our news website better.
What advice do you have for Nigeria politicians?
Being a political office holder is an avenue to serve wholeheartedly- which is to be a servant leader. Politicians must erase it from their memory that politics is an avenue to enrich their purses. I will also enjoin them not to be tribal but to be accountable to the electorates that voted them to power.
