Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, the Honourable Minister for Trade, Industry and Investment has reiterated the commitment of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration towards reducing poverty rate in the country and creating enabling environment for industries to thrive.
The Minister stated this while addressing the 13th National council on Industry, Trade and Investment Stakeholders during the week in Ado Ekiti.
He further stressed and applauded the federal government for considering fourteen (14) priorities areas of deliverables for the federal ministry to enable it focus on harnessing the policies that would ensure the sustainability and development of the investment sector in the country.
Adebayo, however, acknowledged the effort of the federal government for creating enabling environment for MSMEs to thrive in the country by ensuring credit access to 20 million MSMEs as one of the strategic pillars to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.
In an address, the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi stated that MSMEs have been estimated to contribute about 50% of Nigeria’s GDP and that the initiative has contributed to the economic recovery that has been projected to grow by 2.7% according to the World Bank.
He said “In Ekiti State, our government had in the last three years focused its intervention in the state commercial sector activities and programmes designed to develop the MSMEs in the state”.
Speaking further, the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), stressed the importance of the country’s economy as vital to security and stability of the nation, stating that office of the NSA in collaboration with other security agencies are serious about nipping insecurity in the bud.
