The association of retired and serving military and paramilitary officers under the aegis of Ogbomoso Valiant Club (OVC) has conferred an Award of Excellence on Service to Humanity on a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olawumi Bimbo Oladeji.
The association also gave bursary awards to indigent students at all levels of primary, secondary and tertiary institutions across the five local government areas of Ogbomoso land.
The event was held at Atimaggis Resorts Event Hall, Ogbomoso on Saturday.
Hon. Oladeji, according to the organizers, has contributed in no small measure to the development of Ogbomoso land.
The Club, under the interim Coordinator, Brigadier General Ladipo (rtd), also confirmed the commitment and ingenuity of the lawmaker towards the development of Ogbomoso land.
Senator Hamzat Ayoade Adeseun, who was also at the event, described the award given to the lawmaker and other beneficiaries, as a reward of their good deeds to their immediate community.
In her appreciation message to the organizers, Ogbomoso Valiant Club, Hon. Oladeji, expressed that the award of this magnitude especially from not only respected, but also successful sons of Ogbomoso land means a lot to her adding that she would not take the gesture for granted.
The lawmaker, who is the House Committee Chairman on Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, said that the award is another challenge that will propel her to do more not only for the people of her constituency, but Ogbomoso land in general.
While dedicating the award to the people of her constituency in Ogbomoso North, Hon. Oladeji advocated the need for women to be passionately interested in vying for elective positions in the country.
Oladeji said her articulate activities at both the 8th and 9th assemblies, especially on motions and bills sponsored on the floor have attracted commendations from her constituency and members of the public.
“If you have to go through the motions I have moved in the House of Assembly, starting from the eighth assembly to ninth assembly, almost everything revolves around Ogbomoso, women and children. There was a motion I moved that is now in use in the state, which was the review of maternity leave from three months to six months. Our nursing mothers are presently enjoying it,” the lawmaker said.
Hon. Oladeji, who is the only female lawmaker in the Oyo State House of Assembly, said she will continue to champion the course of women, children and the less privileged including orphans, people living with disability and destitute in the state.
