The Vice Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Professor Edward Olanipekun, has restated that the award of first class degree to EKSU graduating students and other public institutions in Nigeria is based on merit and not by barter.
He stated this on Thursday during the unveiling of the institution’s logo to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the university.
The University don further stated that the institution has done creditably well in awarding scholarships to deserving students in the last 40 years of the existence of the school. He stated that the institution was recently ranked third on webometrics among the 60 state universities in the country.
He further submitted that the vision of the university is to be ranked among the best universities in the country while reaffirming that the graduating students of the school can now have access to their certificates and transcripts immediately after convocation.
While speaking about of how the institution was established in 1982 as Obafemi Awolowo University before being changed to Ondo State University and University of Ado-Ekiti respectively by past administration before assuming its present nomenclature, EKSU.
 He stated that spirited efforts have been made by past administrators of the school for the citadel of learning to stand as a reliable training ground for Nigerians.
On the significance of the unveiling of the logo, the scholar stated that; “You will agree with me that this celebration worth it, going by the impressive outstanding performances of our university in the last 40 years among the league of universities.
“This is coupled with unequalled stunning performances of our alumni across the globe, in their various fields. Hence, I humbly seek your support, encouragement and understanding in making this anniversary a success”.
He further restated that the students who were scammed through internet fraud when paying their tuition fees via uncertified cyber cafe would have to repay, saying the university won’t regard the debt incurred through the process as a bad debt.
Olanipekun further clarified that the university has a centralized portal through which it collects funds payable by students, saying anyone who circumvents the channel would automatically bear the brunt.
