Aribo Shines As Rangers Beat St Mirren

AFCON-bound Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo was in sparkling form during a Boxing day tie as he helped Rangers to a 2-0 home win against St Mirren at the Ibrox Stadium.

Listed on Saturday on the 28-man Super Eagles for the AFCON , Aribo was in action as his restored their six point advantage at the top of the Scottish Premier table going into the winter break.

Weekend’s win secured Rangers nine league wins on the trot but seven under their new Dutch coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Rangers went cracking from the blast of the whistle and raced into the lead in the 14th minute when Scott Wright

But the manner of the goal was maybe unlikely with winger Wright heading home the opener after 14 minutes. Aribo flicked on a corner and Wright got up well at the back post to nod in with Morelos on hand to make sure after it was clawed out but it was the former Aberdeen man’s goal.

James Tavernier was then close to a stunning second when his long range effort took a deflection off Ethan Erhahon that had Jak Alnwick scrambling across his goal and it went just wide.

The Light Blues doubled their lead before the half hour mark in thunderous style and there was no disputing it was Morelos’ goal this time.
