The national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has commiserated with Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria over the death of elder-statesman and president of the council, Dr. Datti Ahmed.

He said throughout his life, Dr. Ahmed symbolised and fought for justice, equity and fairness adding that his demise was a loss not only to the Muslim community in Nigeria but to all Nigerians.

In a condolence message by his Media Office on Thursday night in Lagos, Asiwaju Tinubu said: “I received the news of the death of Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmed, elder-statesman and President of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN), with deep sense of sorrow.

“As a first generation medical doctor from Kano State, Dr. Ahmed dedicated his life to the service of humanity. He would later re-channel his energy to the promotion of Islam and community service through which he impacted many lives and promoted progressive ideas and unity.

“Throughout his life, he symbolised and fought for justice, equity and fairness. He worked assiduously along with others to found the SCSN of which he was the pioneer president. Sheikh Ahmed was an epitome of religious freedom and tolerance. He was also a great crusader for social justice.

“As his name symbolises, Datti (The noble, in Fulfulde), nobility manifested in his character and conduct. He spared no effort to uphold his dignity and that of his family and the larger society.

“We related well during his lifetime. He was someone I always counted on and whom I consulted whenever the need arose. He was never found wanting when it came to public office, having diligently served in different capacities.

“The death of Dr. Ahmed is a great loss to the medical community in Nigeria and the comity of Islamic scholars.

“My condolences to his family, Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, the government and people of the state, Muslims across the country, and Nigerians as a whole.

“May Almighty Allah reward his good deeds, forgive his shortcomings, have mercy upon him and admit him and others who have gone before him into Aljannatul Firdaus. (Amin).”
