The immediate past chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ekiti state chapter, High Chief Laolu Omosilade aka Lollipop has bowed out of active service.
High Chief Omosilade who is also the Sapetu of Afao Ekiti in Irepodun Ifelodun local government area of the state served as a public officer for over three decades.
Laolu Omosilade started his education at the St David’s Anglican primary school, Afao Ekiti, before proceeding to the famous Emmanuel Anglican Primary School in Ado Ekiti to complete his basic education.
He further attended the prestigious citadel of learning, Christ’s School, Ado Ekiti before bagging his first degree at the then University of Ado Ekiti, and an Advance Diploma in Broadcast Journalism from the NTA Television College, Jos.
Chief Omosilade started his broadcast journalism career in the Ondo State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) in the year 1985 as a freelance presenter before he was gainfully employed in 1988 as an assistant producer.
The veteran broadcaster was the first chairman of the Radio, Television and Theatre Workers Union, (RATTAWU) at the inception of Ekiti State in 1996, and as part of the foundation members of the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State, (BSES) Ado Ekiti, in 1997.
Omosilade, however, transformed as a Penpusher in the year 1998 after being moved to the Newsroom as a well-trained journalist.
He contested the position of the state secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and won in 2006, before becoming the State chairman in a keenly contested election in the year 2011 with landmark achievements.
High Chief Laolu Omosilade was given the chieftaincy title of Sapetu, in Afao Ekiti in 2016, before being elected as the President of Afao Development Council, an umbrella association of all sons and daughters of Afao Ekiti in the year 2018.
