Adds: ‘This Super Eagles Are The Best We Have Had In A Long While’
Former Nigeria international, Dimeji Lawal has given reason why the interim coach of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen should be given a chance to continue to nurture the national team.
In a social media comment, Dimeji, who is currently the Team Manager of Ibadan’s darling team, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) appealed to those in charge of running the national team to confirm Eguavoen as the coach of the Super Eagles.
When contacted to reconfirm this statement by PMParrot, Lawal said “Yes, I wrote that. We should not say because we feel pained because of the loss and forget about how to think straight. We must always think of the way forward.”
Read Lawal’s submission here:
“Yes, we lost to Tunisians, who were only lucky to qualify from the group stage by being best losers, compared to the leader of another group with nine available points.
“But tonight (Sunday night) I give kudos to Austin (Egwuavoen) who started working with these players less than a month ago.
“The kind of football they exhibited as a group has not been witnessed in our National team for a long time – group of young versatile players with lots of talents and exposure and that is very visible in their game.
“The defeat tonight can be very painful, based on our high expectations, because of previous results, but game of soccer, there are always shockers and the unexpected.
“It doesn’t mean the better side won yesterday. Analysts, commentators and fans will start coming up with different ideas, technical, tactical, psychological and even Buhari’s call will be long debated.
“The bottom line is, no one could have seen anything differently if the team had won. All these observations are the tiny line between failure and success. Buhari could have been the best motivator with best motivated speech this morning if they had won.
To sum it up, I wish Austin could be given more time with this group because, we have been shown glimpses of what we can have in the future with these young players.
“The best football teams all over the world come from continuity and long-term planning…no more fire brigade approach”.
