The Joint Action Committee of Tertiary Institutions in Oyo State (JAC) has lauded the Oyo State Government under the amiable leadership of Engr. ‘Seyi Makinde, over the approval of the immediate release of 36 Million naira budgetary grant and 100 Million naira intervention to settle some of the challenges facing the Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate during the Governor’s working visit to the institution.
The State Chief Executive directed that the 100 Million naira would be released in two (2) tranches with 50 Million naira to be released immediately while the second tranche would be released before the middle of the year.
In a release personally signed by the JAC Chairman, Comrade Olusegun Oyewumi, the body noted that by this approval, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde has demonstrated his love for education.
According to him, “JAC lauds our amiable Governor Seyi Makinde for his demonstration of love for educational advancement as reflected in his timely visit to the Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate and the subsequent approval of the payment of 36 Million naira budgetry grant and 100 Million naira intervention to settle some of the challenges facing the institution. We identify some of his previous actions as demonstrated in the following:
- Defrayment of 30 months arrears of 2016/2017 salary
- Era of 25% salary gone with the constant payments of monthly salaries on the 25th of every month
- Involvement of our unions in major decisions affecting tertiary institutions which truly reflected in the appointment of Governing Councils for our institutions
- Release of 200 million naira for accreditation of courses at The Polytechnic, Ibadan
- Provision of conducive environments for smooth and almost uninterrupted academic sessions in all tertiary institutions for over three (3) years
- Implementation of minimum wage across all tertiary institutions in the State
- Payment of one-year minimum wage arrears in all Oyo State Tertiary Institutions and your Excellency’s approval of the arrears of Lanlate Staff within the next four (4) weeks
- It must be placed on record that H.E. remains the only Governor that has ever given the largest percentage of State budget to the education sector
The release further appreciated the Governor for being a listening leader whose words are always his bond. “While appreciating Your Excellency for this gesture to the College of Education, Lanlate, we have a great hope that you shall extend same gesture to other tertiary institutions in the State towards aiding their academic advancement and infrastructural developments”.
“JAC equally uses this avenue to passionately appeal to His Excellency to avail us an opportunity to discuss other salient issues affecting other tertiary institutions in the Pace-Setting State to make them an envy of other tertiary institutions in the country”, the release concluded.
