As part of the celebration marking the world social day, the Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASOW) has reiterated its commitment to building a new social world.
The National President of the association, Alhaji Mashood Mustapha, stated that the celebration was aimed at changing the narrative and an attempt to create a new social order in the country.
He further expressed that the choice of celebrating and recognizing social workers in Nigeria was historic, adding that the celebration hosted by the Ekiti State Government was an attempt to make the occasion unique and to ensure the state is well groomed in Eco-Social development.
The Ekiti State Chairman of the association, Comrade Temitope Joshua Adeusi, further stated that the Social Work Day celebration/National Executive Council Meeting hosted by the state is very significant adding that it would further showcase the state’s potential in tourism to all participants.
He further admonished every social work professionals to continue serving humanity and adding that the profession promotes good values, inclusion, growth and development.
Speaking further, the coordinator of the Ekiti Sexual Assault Referral Centre, EKSUTH, Barrister Rita Ilevbawi, revealed that the centre was established to give holistic solutions ranging from medical care, empowerment, psychological care to affected people while reaffirming that there is a strong collaborative effort between the government and the social workers in the state.
Barrister Ilevbawi further disclosed that the centre has attended to over 247 cases since its opening, disclosing that 160 clients have accessed free medical care.
The National President of the association, however, commended the effort of the centre in its effort at reducing the proliferation of Gender Based Violence in the state.
