Dr Kayode Fayemi’s Government in Ekiti State has established a special task force tagged Ekiti State Water and Sanitation Regulatory Agency (EK-WASRA), to regulate the activities of underground well drillers in the state.
Speaking, the Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Professor Bolaji Aluko stated that the agency was established to ensure that the residents of the state are provided with portable water and to create synergy between the drillers’ association and the government.
He equally assured that the task force is charged to regulate the activities and welfare of the association, stressing that the drillers in the state have to be trained and certified Geologists.
He said, “This day is essentially for the establishment of a regulatory body to regulate the activities of the underground water. The message today is to ensure that there is a synergy between those professionals and the government, in order that the water they are bringing out from the underground to the surface is safer for people. Any person who calls himself a professional water well driller must be a geologist and have obtained certificate”.
Speaking further, the Chairman of the task force, Engineer Ogunniyi Peace urged the residents of the state to put an end to unprofessional water service providers by hindering the activities of any water well drillers who are not registered with EK-WASRA.
