The Southwest zone of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) has concluded plans to stage a maiden football tournament for states in the geo-political zone of the country named: YSFON Southwest Under-16 Gold Cup Soccer Tournament.
The new soccer tournament tagged ‘Ode-Omu 2022’, according to a statement issued by Ilori Simeon Olufemi, the Secretary of YSFON South/West has been the slated for May 9TH – 16TH, 2022 at the National Youth Development Centre, Odeomu, Osun State.
The tournament according to Ilori is a resolution of the South/West executive members made during their meeting of Sunday 27th March, 2022 where they resolved to institute a tournament to keep the flag of Sports in the Yoruba speaking States flying by going to the nooks and crannies of each of the States to discover more talents.
“The Chairman of Southwest chapter of YSFON, Abayomi Alabi was the one that suggested the idea of the tournament, and the idea was embraced and supported by all other members, and he has pledged to provide the take-off grant pending getting potential sponsors for the tourney”, said the Secretary.
He, however, added that letters have been sent out to the six states in the southwest to commence a playoff that will produce two teams to represent each state for the finals where cash prizes, medals and other incentives will be given to eventual winners.
