A University don, Professor Omotoye Olorode has frowned at the excessive media focus on the ruling class, while urging them to beam their news coverage on the masses who voted those in positions of authority into power.
He further stated that one of the problems confronting the Nigerian media is commercialism and intellectual unpreparedness, which is affecting the integrity of the profession.
He stated this during the 2022 annual lecture and award presentation of the Federated Chapel, Ekiti State council, recently.
Speaking further, the Chairman, NUJ, Ekiti State Council, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela, ably represented by Comrade Kayode Babatuyi commended the council in its quest to end quackery while urging them to put in necessary machinery to checkmate impostors that have infiltrated the profession.
He said, “Our union has continued to record tremendous successes beyond our expectations, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, training of journalists and ensuring a respectable profession by putting machinery in place to checkmate impostors or quacks that have infiltrated the profession with impunity”.
Among those honored at the event with award of excellence included Alhaja Bose Adedibu, Elizade University, Ajibola Aminat among others.
