A constitutional lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele over his involvement in partisan politics.
He stated this while addressing South West youth and women in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital on Thursday.
Godwin Emefiele had indicated interest to contest as president of the country under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but later withdrew after serious public outcry.
“The CBN Governor has no right to engage in other vocations as stipulated in the Section 9 of the CBN Act. This is because the governor of the CBN is a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress.
It has never happened anywhere before in the world, this is very dangerous. The CBN governor’s power is enormous under the CBN Act, he cannot be a politician”.
Falana further lamented that the CBN boss has failed to address the rising cost of inflation in the country, depreciation of the country’s currency adding that if he becomes the next president, he would use his statutory power to harass people in the banking sector who disagreed with him politically.
