The Yoruba World Centre, after consultations with leaders in Yorubaland including Governors and foremost Traditional Rulers, has fixed Sunday, 19 June 2022 as the day to celebrate the new Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun. This will take place at the Centre’s arena, inside the University of Ibadan.

According to the release issued from the Centre, the ceremony which coincides with His Majesty’s100 days on the throne will be used to celebrate the monarch in the presence of the Yoruba highest lords of business, politics, administration and tradition.

The Yoruba World Centre, whose programmes were formally presented to the general public by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, aspires to preserve, repackage and represent Yoruba history, language, arts and culture, and use these as tools for our culture rejuvenation, regional unity, nation building, national cohesiveness and mutual understanding and development.

The Centre occasionally celebrates a world icon of Yoruba extraction by representing one of the history, arts: music, poems, drums, etc.  of the Yoruba people to a selected public, especially the young ones and the elite.

This provides opportunity for the young ones to learn about it and understand our recent past, to be gingered towards achieving greatest possible heights in life; the elite to develop interest in promoting and supporting such arts as a tool of job creation, industry and empowerment for the younger ones; and researchers as a source of primary data, further research and education on Yoruba history, arts and culture.

The celebration to be hosted by the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, shall be witnessed by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo and other prominent traditional rulers and Yoruba leaders.
