The Justice Development and Peace Initiative, (JDPI) an arm of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti in conjunction with the Ekiti State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) is set for a media discussion with candidates of the various political parties contesting the state’s gubernatorial election.
The event tagged ‘Manifesto to Agreement’ is scheduled to take place on June 4, 2022 at the Pope John Paul II Pastoral Centre, Ado-Ekiti.
Speaking, the Director of JDPI, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Akingbade revealed that the event is purposely designed for electorates in the state to hold leaders accountable as enshrined in the constitution, stating that the event will attract stakeholders from the religious, traditional and civil society organizations.
He further revealed that the gubernatorial candidates are expected to talk about their manifestoes, which will serve as an agreement with the people if voted into office.
The Catholic priest stated that program will enable the gubernatorial candidates to interact and share their vision with the electorates in the state.
He said, “The program is designed to create a platform for electorates to interact with candidates of various political parties participating in the election in order to understand their blue prints and how they intend to achieve such foresight. It is an initiative brought up with the aim of holding leaders accountable as enshrined in the constitution”.
