The Gubernatorial candidate of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) in the recently concluded election in Ekiti state, Dr. Wole Oluyede has revealed that the exercise was characterized with irregularities and vote buying.
He further stated that he would not contest for the governorship seat in future elections but would rather continue with his charitable life style to support vulnerable people.
Oluyede stated this while addressing reporters in Ikere Ekiti, alleging that money was shared in the open to induce voters.
He said, “I believe the person Ekiti deserves is who they voted for but certainly the best candidate was not the winner because the election was procured with money. Everybody involved in the election were compromised, including INEC. In my hometown, people were going out with security agents to arrest and openly give out bribes, was that a free and fair election?
Speaking further, “Ekiti people cannot say the government forced anything on them, the funny thing is that until Thursday before the election, people were complaining about the APC government but then they woke up on Saturday to change the narrative.
Some people came to my house and accused me of not bringing out money and asking if the people I gave money did not bring it out. Yes, I gave the instruction that nobody should distribute money. I did not buy the vote of an Ekiti person”
Oluyede further regretted joining politics stating that he has learnt a bitter lesson, while expressing disappointment in Ekiti people who voted based on money and the attitude of Ikere Ekiti residents who failed to support him in actualizing his ambition.
He said, “I really don’t think Ikere can get any political office again. Ifaki voted their son, Ikogosi did too but it is only Ikere that didn’t vote their own. I am worried on how things will go but so far that I am not a politician anymore, I do not think it is my business because I ran for gubernatorial seat because Ekiti south has been cheated out of power for long.
The ADC gubernatorial candidate, however, denied the allegations that he got money from Asiwaju Bola Tinubu during the election revealing that it was the imagination of mischief-makers.
He further stated that he has so much respect for the APC presidential candidate because of his antecedents and contribution to the growth of Lagos state during his tenure as governor of Lagos State.
