The gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the June 18 election in Ekiti State, Kemi Elebute-Halle, has distributed N30 million and other items to selected youths in the state for empowerment and development.
The cash gifts were disbursed through the United Bank of Africa (UBA), with beneficiaries receiving between N400,000 to N2.5 million.
Presenting the cheques and cars to the beneficiaries through her non-profit organisation, the Dominion Group in Ado-Ekiti, Elebute-Halle said the initiative was part of her efforts to support the most vulnerable in the state. Beneficiaries were drawn from the 16 council areas across the three senatorial districts.
The candidate noted that youth empowerment was crucial to curbing crimes and promoting development, saying the gesture was primarily aimed to aid wealth creation and contribute positively to the economy.
Elebute-Halle also clarified that the group’s activities were not motivated by any partisan interest, explaining that she was trying to give back to the society that has assisted her in achieving her dreams.
She added: “The programme is one of the series of our initiative aimed at eradicating poverty and empowering unemployed youths. This has been my tradition before I ventured into politics to give succour to women, youths, aged, widows, physically-challenged and less-privileged.
“The main purpose of this money being given to them is to ensure they create wealth and become employers of labour. I believe this will help banish poverty and unemployment as well as encourage self-reliance”. She enjoined the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money.
Mrs. Opeyemi Osalusi, who spoke for the beneficiaries, hailed Halle-Elebute for the gesture, describing her as a compassionate leader. She promised to use her N2 million to transform her life and place her on the path of everlasting prosperity and greatness.
