In furtherance of its stakeholders’ engagement in the fight against economic and financial crimes, the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has carried out an enlightenment and sensitisation interaction with senior military officers, academic staff and officer cadets of 73 and 74 Regular Courses of the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA.
The event, which held on Thursday at the NDA, Afaka, Kaduna had paper presentations in three segments by senior officers of the EFCC. The first presentation, delivered by Chief Superintendent of the EFCC, CSE Nana Fatima Abubakar took an ” An overview of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
She engaged the participants on the formation, activities and “Frequently Asked Questions” about the Commission, in order for them to understand how to relate with the EFCC either through personal interactions and social media platforms. She also advised them to take advantage of the Commission’s Eagle Eye App which is a digital crime-reporting application developed by the EFCC. Participants were also intimated with the ” EFCC CONNECT ” a virtual town hall weekly meeting held on the twitter space of the Commission.
The second presentation was made by the Head, Cyber Crime Section, CSE Nuradeen Bello who talked on “Understanding the Basics of Cyber Threats”. He took the participants through the various modus operandi of cyber fraudsters. He also identified some red flags as well as peculiar ways fraudsters operate.
The Head, Bank Fraud Section, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE II. Mustapha Yusuf Abubakar made the third presentation entitled: “ A Closer Look at a Wide Range of Fraud Perpetrated by members of the Society”. He enumerated some of the cases handled by the Commission, results achieved as well as ways to keep classified information away from third parties. He cautioned against negligence about information on finances, stressing that such an attitude is helping corrupt practices to thrive. He charged participants to stand up and play deliberate roles in the fight against corruption for the overall growth of the country.
The lectures afforded officers of the EFCC and NDA to engage in robust discussions and fresh ideas were canvassed on how to move the anti-corruption crusade forward.
