Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen opened his goal scoring account in the UEFA Champions League in Napoli’s 4-2 thrashing of Dutch champions Ajax in their Group clash at the Diego Maradona stadium yesterday evening.

The 23-year-old, returning to action after spending five weeks on the sidelines, was brought on in the 50th minute as a replacement for Giacomo Raspadori and scored the fourth goal for I Partenopei  in the 89th  minute.

Nigerian youngster Calvin Bassey was also on parade for the Eredivisie giants, featuring for the entire duration of the game.

It didn’t take long before the hosts got into the lead. Piotr Zieliński assisted Hirving Lozano to score in the 4th minute.

Just eight minutes later, the Parthenopeans got their second of the night as Raspadori found the back of the net following a delightful pass from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The Dutch giants came out in the second half with the intention to salvage something from the game, and it paid off four minutes into the second half.

Calvin Bassey’s well whipped cross was met by the head of Davy Klaassen.

Napoli extended their lead in the 62nd after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia converted a spot kick.

Bassey got booked in the 66th minute after stopping an attack from Mathias Oliveira.

Osimhen thought he had found the back of the net in the 79th minute but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Ajax would go on to reduce the deficit once again, as Steven Bergwijn scored from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute before Osimhen struck six minutes later to break the Dutch fans heart and seal the victory for Napoli.
