Mr Biodun Oyebanji, the new governor of Ekiti State on Saturday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Funminiyi Afuye, in Lagos.
Oyebanji was received by the widow of the Speaker, Mrs Titilayo Afuye.
The Speaker died on Wednesday, October 19 2022, at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti where he was receiving treatment after suffering from cardiac arrest.
According to a statement from the Governor’s Office, titled ‘Oyebanji pays condolence visit to late Afuye’s family’, the governor pledged the state government’s support to the family, adding that the late Speaker would be immortalised.
Oyebanji, who said that the Deputy Governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye, had earlier visited the late Speaker’s family on behalf of the government immediately after the unfortunate incident, recalled pleasant memories of the late Speaker, especially his sterling leadership qualities, commitment to democratic values and amiable personality,
He said, “This is a huge loss to the government and people of Ekiti State. We feel your pains and we pray the good Lord will heal the wound and console you and the entire family.
“As government, we shall support the family in every way possible and we shall immortalise him. That is one of the ways we can show our appreciation for the quality and selfless service Hon Afuye rendered to our dear state.”
