Defender, Zaidu Sanusi is a major doubt for Nigeria’s international friendly against Portugal in Lisbon on November 17.
The 25-year-old was forced out of FC Porto’s UEFA Champions League 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday in the 52nd minute of the match after he suffered a serious injury.
The Eagles defender was in tears showed signs of serious discomfort around his groin and had to be helped out of the pitch.
Torino fullback Ola Aina is already out of the friendly after a hamstring injury in training will sideline him for the rest of this year.
Cremonese striker, Cyril Dessers, is also expected to miss the high-profile friendly after his club announced on Wednesday that he suffered a ‘blunt trauma on the left thigh.’
Porto coach, Sergio Conceicao, heaped plaudits on the Nigerian for his display in their win over Atletico Madrid.
“Zaidu who is criticised for not being as gifted as so many people think he should be has other fantastic things,”Conceicao said after his side’s win.
“If he had every feature people wish he had, he would play for the best club in the world, which for me is FC Porto, but not in terms of money. The moment of the match is how the goal came, thanks to the good technique that Zaidu has and keeps improving.”
