Oyo State Women coordinator of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu/ Kashim Shettima Presidential Campaign, Dr (Mrs) Florence Ajimobi has disclosed that the All Progressive Congress’ presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the only one that can give women in Nigeria what they want and what they deserve.
The former Oyo state first lady made this known on Thursday at the Isaq Abiola Ajimobi Central Mosque while addressing Muslim women in Oyo State under the auspices of Oyo For Tinubu Shettima Women Presidential Campaign Team (OTISHE) on why they must be part of the electioneering process in the country.
Mrs Ajimobi, who is the convener of the meeting explained the real reason Nigerian women, especially Muslim women should not sit at home during elections but to go out and perform their civic responsibilities.
“I decided to call this round table meeting of Muslim women in Oyo State to let them know the main reason why we want them to participate in the forthcoming elections on the 25th of February this year. We have also told them to go and get their voter cards. It is their right to vote. They can not continue to sit at home saying they are not politicians because of our children.
“Our children are the leaders of today and tomorrow, and we want the women to know that by participating in choosing their leaders, they are safeguarding the future of their children,” she said.
Speaking further, Mrs Ajimobi said that out of the three main contender in the Presidential race, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the only on that has the well-begin of the women folks at heart because during the time of his governorship era, his two deputy governors were women.
“Also we want them to know that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the only one that can give women in Nigeria what they want and what they deserve. When he was the two-term governor of Lagos State, women were his deputy and we all know that Asiwaju Tinubu is a builder who has build a lot of people. Some of them are Governors, Ministers and even Vice president. If opportunity is given to him to lead the nation, I believe that the issue of unemployment will be history in Nigeria,” she added.
Also speaking at the interactive section, the former Oyo State information commissioner, Toye Arulogun further explained the rationale behind the meeting saying Mrs Ajimobi just wanted to kill two birds with one stone by educating and enlightening Muslim women on their need to participate in the forthcoming elections.
“The main reason for this interactive session with Muslim women is to be able to educate them and this will enable them to be more enlightened on why they should vote- not just to vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu but to mobilise other women in their communities and they have been talking about their expectations from Tinubu/Shettima when they get to Aso Rock.
One of the participants, Dr Uthman Zarat, a researcher explained that Muslim women gathered to supports the aspiration of Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu because “we believe in him to take the nation to a greater height. Although our mother, Mrs Florence Ajimobi invited us to a round table discussion on how Muslim women in Oyo State can join hands by working together to have a good future for Nigeria by supporting Senator Tinubu, that is why you see so many Muslim women here today.
“When Dr (Mrs) Florence Ajimobi invited us, we told her that she should tell us why we must support Bola Tinubu and she has convinced us that Bola Tinubu is the right person for us to vote for because she is trustworthy, so, we that are Muslim women in all the Muslim sects in Oyo State have decided to follow her by throwing our whole support behind the aspiration of Senator Bola Tinubu”.
