The National and State Emergency Management Agencies have urged the residents of Ekiti State to cultivate the habit of planting trees to prevent wind.
The Agencies made this plea during their inspection to ascertain the extent of damage caused by rainstorm that occurred at St. Thomas Primary school and St. Mary Catholic church Irona, Ado – Â Â Ekiti in Ado Ekiti local government.
The team led by the Director, Relief & Rehabilitation of the State Emergency Management Agency, Mrs. Laka Kemisola symphatised with the people of the area where the storm wrecked havoc and encouraged the Catholic priest of St. Mary’s church in the premises to prevent whirlwind by creating wind brakers around the church and school compound.
She stressed that Ekiti state would seek the assistance of the Federal Government with a view to reducing the menace and as well assisting the victims of the rainstorm.
Earlier the Rev. Father of St. Mary Catholic Church Irona, Father Julius Adewumi who led the victims of the rainstorm said that properties worth millions of naira were destroyed. Rev. Father Adewumi who thanked God for not losing any life in the incident appealed to the state government to come to their aid.
