World Hijab Day: Oyo FOMWAN Calls For Ban On Immoral Dressing Among Women Folk

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) Oyo State chapter has joined female Muslims, who chose to uphold the commandment of Allah as contained in the Glorious Quran on the wearing of hijab across the world in celebration of the 2023 World Hijab Day.

FOMWAN in a news release issued in Ibadan to mark this year’s World Hijab Day, described hijab as a religious requirement and injunction which is only directed at female Muslims.

The statement signed by Oyo State Amirah of FOMWAN, Alhaja (Dr.) Bushra Oloso, said hijab represents and promotes modesty, dignity and decency, adding that every 1st of February is set aside to celebrate and create awareness on the essence and importance of hijab amongst Muslims.

According to her, “we are happy to celebrate this day with millions of female Muslims across the globe. Hijab is our identity and a commandment, and it is our pride. Muslims are enjoined to follow the dictates of the Quran. Hijab is an injunction in Quran chapter 24:31 and 33:59”

The Oyo FOMWAN Amirah described as unfair what she called acrimonious and sentimental war some religious bigots are waging against the use of hijab.

Alhaja Oloso wondered why people would show animosity towards decently and modestly clothed female Muslims but show affection to bare-breasted and skimpily dressed ladies and women.

“It is time for everybody to condemn immoral dressing that is rampant among the female folks. We should promote decency, modesty and chastity at all times.”
