Coach Luciano Spalletti has described Victor Osimhen as a solution provider for the team in their quest for a third Serie A title this season.
The Nigerian leads the scoring chart in the Serie A with 17 goals from 19 matches this season and he is edging closer to history as the first African to become the highest goal scorer in the Italian top flight.
Speaking after their 3-0 bashing of Cremonese, Spalletti said: “We are looking for him (Osimhen) because he has the qualities, not because we want him to score goals for the title of a scorer. He finds the solution for us, it is he who helps us and not the other way around.”
Also, yesterday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport celebrated Osimhen for his good performance against Cremonese and for his 17th league goal: “With Victor on the pitch, we almost always start 1-0, you just need to be patient. What Napoli seems to have acquired definitively. And the one that has allowed Osimhen to transform himself in a short time: he had arrived from a hungry center forward and with good hopes, he is establishing himself as the true top player in the championship.”
Meanwhile, the price tag on Osimhen’s possible replacement at Napoli, Danish teenager, Rasmus Hojlund has been jerked up by Atalanta.
The Danish center forward, who has just turned 20 and was bought at 17m Euro is now worth 40m Euros and is being pursued by several Italian clubs.
“Everyone considers Hojlund the ideal replacement to deal with a possible transfer (Osimhen, Vlahovic, Lukaku), or to reinforce the attacking department. But today it is easier to assume, net of essential offers, that Atalanta wants to enjoy him a little longer,” La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote yesterday.
