Defender William Troost-Ekong has sustained an injury and remains a doubt for next month’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers between Nigeria and Guinea Bissau.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to play the Djurtus in a two-legged affair as they bid to book their place at the AFCON in Ivory Coast next year.
The first leg holds at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on March 24, before the Eagles travel to Morocco for the second leg March 28.
The 29-year-old picked up the injury in Salernitana’s 1-0 defeat to Hellas Verona last week and was replaced by Norbert Gyomber seven minutes from time after it was confirmed he could not continue with the game.
While no exact date was given for the return of the Eagles vice-captain, Salernitana wrote that the former Watford player had an MRI scan to determine the severity of his injury.
“The US Salernitana 1919 communicates that William Troost-Ekong underwent an MRI and CAT scan at the Centro Polidiagnostico Check-Up which showed a fracture of the tibial plateau following a blunt trauma,” the club syated on their official website.
