The governor of Oyo State and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Engr. Seyi Makinde has been announced as the winner of the gubernatorial election in the state.
The Governor was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), after clearing 31 out of the 33 local government areas in the state, leaving the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Teslim Folarin with only two local governments.
While the announcing the final results at the state’s INEC Collation Center, Agodi, Ibadan, the Returning Officer, Prof. Adebayo Simeon Bamire Adedayo, said Engr. Seyi Makinde polled 563,756 votes, while Senator Teslim Folarin of APC and Adebayo Adelabu of Accord scored 256,685 votes and 38,358 votes respectively.
He said that the total valid votes is 874,672 while the total votes cast is 889,592.
“That Makinde Oluseyi Abiodun of PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Prof. Bamire declared.
