Ahead of Nigeria’s return leg clash against Guinea Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Monday, Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi hopes to score goals and help Nigeria pick a ticket for the tournament scheduled to hold in Ivory Coast next year.
The Eagles suffered a shock 1-0 to the Djurtus in the first leg of their Group A fixture on Friday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
Fans raised concern over the team’s inability to win in Abuja while also questioning Jose Paseiro’s ability to lead Nigeria to AFCON success as the Portuguese has struggled to make his mark since being appointed in May 2022.
Nigeria kicked off their quest for a place in the 2023 AFCON taking place in Ivory Coast in June 2022, when they defeated Sierra Leone 2-1, before running riot in a 10-0 dismantling of Sao Tome and Principe.
Moffi was on the score chart as the OGC Nice striker scored a brace in the match.
Speaking ahead of the game in Bissu, Moffi, who has featured nine times for the national team and registered three goals and is one of the finest strikers in the French Ligue 1 league, hoped to fire Eagles to victory on Monday.
“Yes I scored two goals against Sao Tome, but this is in the past now, we are all looking forward to the game in Bissau on Monday(today) and hopefully I get some game time and try to help the team win the game and score goals as well,” Moffi told PUNCH Sports Extra.
Djurtus currently top Group A with seven, one point ahead of Nigeria, who are second with six points. Sierra Leone are third with two points, while Sao Tome and Principe are at the bottom of the group with one point.
A win for Nigeria will take them to nine points and reclaim the top spot in Group A.
