Nigeria international, Simy Nwankwo, has incurred the wrath of his employers, Benevento Calcio, after video captured the striker in attendance during the Champions League game between Napoli and AC Milan on Tuesday.

Simy was among the 52,728 fans at the Diego Armando Maradona as the Rossoneri beat the Partenopei 2-1 on aggregate to book a place in the semi-finals of the competition.

The 30-year-old, who was part of the Eagles squad to the World Cup in Russia in 2018, had gone to the stadium to support his compatriot Osimhen alongside some Nigerian celebrities, including Peter Okoye of the popular music group, PSquare, and Cubana Chief Priest and was seen consoling him after the game.

According to Tutto Napoli, the club’s management and supporters viewed Simy’s behaviour as unprofessional and are set to take disciplinary action against the Nigerian.

“On Tuesday evening at the Maradona, Simy was also in the stands to watch the match between Napoli and Milan in the Champions League,” the website wrote.

“A presence that made noise in the Benevento house with the video of the center forward in the stands of the stadium who toured the city in a few hours, arousing the ire of society.

“In fact, as Ottopagine reports, the Nigerian had not asked the club for permission to attend the match and probably he would not have been allowed to leave the city in a very delicate moment for the Samnite team that risks relegation to Serie C.

“A lightness, that of Osimhen’s compatriot, who aroused the wrath of the fans and annoyed the club which during today’s training summoned the player to the headquarters to impose a disciplinary measure on him.”
