In what was a miserable 2022/23 season, Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi, in an emotional message, tendered his apology to the fans following Leicester City’s drop to the Championship.

The Foxes endured a torrid season and despite their 2-1 win over West Ham on the final day of the season, the East Midlands side were relegated to the second tier league, bringing an end to a hugely successful near-decade in the topflight that saw them lift the Premier League title and FA Cup, while regularly playing in Europe.

Leicester finished 18th on the EPL log with 34 points, two points fewer than Everton, who finished 17th and managed to remain in the topflight at the expense of the Foxes.

A week after their drop to the relegation, Ndidi expressed his regret for the team’s inability to meet expectations on his Instagram page.

“I would like to offer my sincerest apologies for the team’s relegation. Gutted that we couldn’t make it in the end. We understand how much you invested in supporting us throughout the season, and we deeply regret letting you down,” Ndidi wrote.

“Please know that your unwavering support is invaluable to us, and we are grateful for your loyalty to the club. Thank you for your understanding and continued support,” he added.

The 26-year-old, who is currently valued at €32m, has one year left on his current contract.
