The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that talks are ongoing with with Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro over a new contract extension.

Peseiro’s contract lapsed last month and while he continues to insist he wants to win the Nations Cup with Nigeria, the NFF are skint and are being suffocated by the weight of his $70 000 per month wages.

Speaking with journalist at the end of the first FIFA Instructor’s Course held in Abuja, Nigeria on Saturday, the NFF’s Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen said the Portuguese would be continue with his job once an agreement is reached.

“At the moment he is in charge, we are discussing in-house and we are giving him conditions as well,” Eguavoen told reporters.

“We are flexible, so it could be suitable for both sides and once we reach a common ground, why not?

“We would invite him and once we agree and we arrive at a common ground, we would be flexible and we also want him to be flexible with us.”

“Contract or no contract, he is a human being and he is still the coach of the national team as it is.

“Contract attached to whatever is not the issue for now, we will invite him as our present coach. We want to reach a common ground but if we can’t, we would also like to shake hands.

Peseiro has qualified the Eagles for the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast in January.

Should the NFF allow Peseiro leave, several reports claim that they will turn to local replacements, with current assistant coach George Finidi, Sunday Oliseh and Emmanuel Amunike as the front runners.
