Subsidy Palliatives: Tinubu, Akpabio, Governors Meet To Strategise

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has widened his consultation on alleviating the hardship of Nigerians as a result of removal of petrol subsidy.

Throughout Wednesday, he met with different categories of people, including governors at Aso Villa, to fine-tune plans for palliatives.

Vice President, Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio were with the President during his meeting with governors.

The governors at the meeting are: AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara State), Hope Uzodinma (imo); Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

AbdulRazaq is the chair of Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF). Uzodimman is the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF)’s chair.

The Nation gathered that the meeting also deliberated on returning and restructuring the economy.

Presidential spokesman Dele Alake, said the meeting also looked at how to finalize arrangement on the distribution of palliatives to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal.

The Presidency had earlier proposed the distribution of grains and fertilizers to farmers also as part of measures to boost food security in the country.

The President has also directed that a comprehensive plan to cushion the effect of petrol subsidy removal on Nigerians should be packaged and made available immediately.

From inception President Tinubu prioritised economic revival with the termination of subsidy regime, merging of the foreign exchange windows, and signing four Executive Orders, to ease tax burdens on businesses.

He has also responded to the negative feedbacks to the launch of some of the economic recovery policies, through the inauguration and establishment of committees to attend to negative reactions.
