Pensioners and vulnerable persons in Ondo State are to start receiving N10,000 monthly from August to December.
This was part of the palliatives to be provided by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.
Other measures include the distribution of free food packages to one million households across the 18 local government areas and the restoration of free shuttle buses for students from September to December 2023.
Free shuttle boats and life jackets would be provided for students in the riverine areas.
Ondo Commissioner for Finance and Chairman, Palliative Strategy and Implementation Committee, Mr. Wale Akinterinwa, who announced these measures at a briefing in Akure, said affordable rates would be charged for the shuttle buses from January 2024.
Akinterinwa said existing buses in all MDAs would be deployed to serve as free shuttle buses to public servants till December 31st.
He said additional CNG buses would be purchased to convey public servants, to and from work at no cost to them, till December 31st.
Akinterinwa stated that inputs at subsidized rates would be made available to farmers while poultry and fish farmers would be given free drugs, maize, and feeds for their birds and fishes.
He said the State Government has suspended hospital registration and consultation fees as well as authorized immediate suspension of haulage fee collection on all non-graded agricultural produce.
According to him: “Various categories of small and medium enterprises will benefit from the state government’s financial assistance. The money to nano, small, medium enterprises will be disbursed through existing government channels.
“Students who are engaged in nano businesses on campus are not excluded. They will also get financial support. The money to nano, small, and medium enterprises will be disbursed through existing government channels.”
