The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has stressed the need for government at all levels and private sectors to invest in sports development.
Oba Ogunwusi spoke on Thursday during a press briefing signaling commencement of entries for the 2nd edition of the Naija Soccer Stars Reality TV Show.
Ooni, who is the Chairman of the Naija Soccer Stars, lamented the country’s low level investment in sports development, and called for a deliberate action that would ensure more investment in the sector.
He noted that the country’s sport sector has the potential to become one of the best in the world if given the necessary support and enabling environment to thrive.
He added that proper development of sports would help tackle unemployment, insecurity, and take away youths away from vices which constituted a clog in the country’s wheel of progress.
Oba Ogunwusi explained that the Naija Soccer Stars Reality show was part of his efforts geared towards promoting sports and empowering teeming youths.
He stated that the show would provide a platform for youths from the grassroots to showcase their football talent, urging them to take advantage of the initiative to launch themselves to prominence.
While commending one of the sponsors, Adeyinka Adesope of Palton Morgan Group, Ooni called on corporate bodies and well-meaning Nigerians to support the initiative in order to develop the sport sector.
“This Reality TV show will add value to society. It will help pick youths from the streets and give them a place in society.
