Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration in Ekiti State has rolled out palliative measures to cushion the effect of removal of fuel subsidy.

Finance Commissioner Mr. Akin Oyebode, who is also the chairman of Palliative Strategy and Implementation Committee, yesterday disclosed this at a news briefing in Ado-Ekiti.

He said the government initiatives followed submission of the report of the committee constituted by Governor Biodun Oyebanji to work out modalities and implementation strategies for the palliative measures.

Part of the measures include plans to pay unconditionally, N5,000 stipend to selected vulnerable 10,000 households for five months, starting from August.

Oyebode also announced the rolling out of free shuttle buses for the workers and students daily and free food packages to households across 16 local governments.

He said: “These include distribution of inputs to farmers as well as financial support to small businesses and our informal sector.

“Implementation of the consequential adjustment for workers on GL. 14 to GL. 17 for state and local government workers and implementation of 90 per cent CONHESS and 100 per cent Hazard allowance for health workers.”

The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), Ekiti State chapter, has hailed Governor Oyebanji over the approval of 90 per cent CONHESS and 100 per cent Hazard Allowance for health workers.

JOHESU Chairman, Femi Ajoloko, said members of the union were excited by the news, adding that it had been a long time dream and desire of the workers.
