As the transfer deadline looms this week, Alex Iwobi may be on his way to Fulham for a reunion with his former coach Marco Silva.

Iwobi has been at the centre of signing a new contract at Everton as the Nigerian had one year left in his contract. But the management of Everton have been dilly-dally with the former Arsenal star.

Iwobi has been among Everton’s stand-out performers in the last 18 months but the recent additions of Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison appear to have opened the door to an exit, if Fulham submit an offer for the Nigerian.

The former Arsenal star has netted nine goals for Everton across 140 appearances but played a key role in helping the club avoid the threat of relegation for the past two seasons.

Reunion?

In Iwobi, Silva could also find himself sharing a dressing room once again with a player he was determined to sign during the summer of 2019 at Goodison Park.

“Alex was one of our main targets for this window,” former Everton boss Silva said back in 2019, Everton agreeing a £35 million fee with Arsenal.

“I believe he is a fantastic signing. He is a direct and skillful winger and attacking midfielder, who always works very hard for his team.

Iwobi might not have lived up to his eye-watering price-tag at Goodison Park.

But Fulham, under Silva, have established themselves as something of a launch pad for underperforming players in need of a fresh start as Bernd Leno, Andreas Pereira and Willian, among others, were outstanding as the Cottagers secured a top-half finish in 2022/23.

Iwobi, meanwhile, has just one year left on his Everton contract. The cash-strapped Toffees may jump at the chance to cash in before the month is out, then. While the additions of Jack Harrison, Ashley Young and Arnaut Danjuma have improved Sean Dyche’s options in wide areas.
