The Cathedral Church of St. David, Kudeti, Diocese of Ibadan South is set to celebrate the 170th anniversary of the existence of the church and Christianity in Ibadan.
Speaking with some select journalists on Monday, the Chairman of the 170th anniversary, Mogaji Olatunde Aboderin maintained that it is important to celebrate the feat and to re-package history for the benefit of the younger generations.
He also stated that the impact of St David Kudeti was not just restricted to evangelism alone but also to educational development as the church has brought a lot of educational development to the entire people of Ibadan and its environs
He said, “The church is no doubt a center of development and civilization for the people of Ibadan and its environs such as Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Kogi and Ilorin as Christianity and Education came through the German missionary and evangelist, Rev. David Hinderer and his wife Hannah Hinderer to those parts of the western region”.
Adding, the Sub Dean of the Cathedral, Ven (Engr) Kehinde Aremu further affirmed the faithfulness of God over the church, stating that the church has surmounted diverse challenges over the years.
He said, “Six people and a horse came to Kudeti precisely on 27th April, 1853 but all is now history. The church gave birth to millions of Christian faith in Ibadan and its environ”.
He, however, noted that many institutions have sprang up through the collective efforts of Revd. David and Hannah Hinderer, stating that many beneficiaries of the largess have now become influential members of the society.
Revealing the highlight of the event, Chief Bayonle Adewale stated that the anniversary week will commence on Sunday 18th Sept 2023 with a community choral service, while the church revival will commence on Monday-Wednesday by 4pm respectively.
A medical outreach is scheduled for Thursday Sept 21, 11am, while the unveiling of BAOBAB TREE and love feast is slated for Saturday 24th Sept 2023.
The thanksgiving service will hold on Sunday with the dedication of Chapter house and re-opening Of David and Anna Hinderer house which happens to be the 1st storey building in Ibadan land and its environ.
