The Chairman, Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare Board (Christian Wing), Rt Rev (Dr) David Ademola Moradeyo has joined other great Nigerians to mourn the demise of Arakunkunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the erstwhile governor of Ondo State whose demise was announced on Wednesday morning.

In a tribute made available to PMParrot on Wednesday evening, Bishop Moradeyo recalled how the late governor put together a group in the 80s after the demise of Chief Lekan Salami to offer (palliative) financial help and sustain the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Ibadan’s darling football team.

Said Moradeyo, who is the Methodist Bishop in charge of Ogbomoso, “Aketi, as we used to call him was the chairman of the group that we called 3SC Improver Supporters’ Club. I was the Public Relations Officer.

“The group, comprised of other like-minds was formed solely to assist 3SC. We were contributing money and using it to ensure the wellbeing of the players and their handlers because we felt the government then could not do everything. I am sure other lovers of the club will remember this noble contribution of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. We used to fund and bring in other football teams into Ibadan to train with 3SC.

“On behalf of all the old 3SC Improvers Supporters, I commiserate with the people of Ondo State, family members, supporters, political associates and friends of the legendary sports supporter, the Aketi of the Universe. May his soul rest in peace.”
