The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has appointed Dr Musibau Olasunkanmi as its new Registrar/Chief Executive.
The appointment was announced on Friday following the approval of the Governing Council of the Institute given at its December 15, 2023 meeting.
A statement from the accounting body said, Olasunkanmi’s appointment was a “strategic decision (which) underscored ICAN’s unwavering commitment to nurturing an exceptional leadership team, guiding the Institute toward a future marked by sustained growth and influence.”
Olasunkanmi assumed the Registrar/Chief Executive role on Thursday, succeeding Mr. Mukaila Lawal, the Acting Registrar/Chief Executive, who will retire on March 1.
The new ICAN Registrar has over 16 years of professional experience spanning various functional areas and having held leadership positions in both the private and public sectors.
The statement revealed that Olasunkanmi holds a PhD in Forensic Accounting & Audit from Charisma University, Turks and Caicos Island, UK; M.Sc. in Accounting from Afe Babalola University; MBA from the University of Lagos; B.Sc. in Accounting from Adekunle Ajasin University; and HND in Accounting from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.
ICAN expressed anticipation of the innovative leadership Olasunkanmi would contribute to the organisation’s continued success.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Olasunkanmi and convey our best wishes for a successful tenure in office,” ICAN said.
According to ICAN Act. (Cap. 185.) the registrar is responsible for preparing and maintaining, “In accordance with rules made by the council, a register of the names, addresses and approved qualifications, and of such other particulars as may be specified in the rules, of all persons who are entitled in accordance with the provisions of this Act to be enrolled as fellows or as associates, or registered as registered accountants, and who, in the manner prescribed by such rules, apply to be so registered.”
