Police Games: How Force Headquarters Emerged As Overall Winners

The 14th Biennial Police games tagged ‘Oluyole 2024’ came to an end on Saturday amidst pomp and pageantry as the Force Headquarters emerged victorious at the weeklong sporting event. 

Zone 2, Lagos emerged the second best winner while Zone 11, Osogbo clinched third best position among the 17 Zonal Commands including the Force Headquarters.

Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, the capital city of Ibadan on Saturday, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun praised the athletes for showcasing their athletic prowess and for projecting the good image of the Nigeria Police Force.

He, however, commended the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for his unquantifiable support towards the success of the police games.

He said, “We appreciate the Governor, his team and the people of Oyo State for creating an enabling atmosphere for the success of the 2024 police game”

The IGP further urged the athletes and sport loving Nigerians to continue to foster unity in the country through the game of sport and to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship.

Also, in the final of the football match played during the closing ceremony, Zone 4, Makurdi showed their mastery of the round leather game by defeating Zone 11, Osogbo 3-0 to clinch the gold medal.

The event also witnessed invitational relay race and tug of war among sister security agencies.

In the relay race, the Nigeria Customs Service (NSC) clinched the gold medal, while the silver and bronze medal went to NSCDC and the Nigeria Air force respectively.

The Nigerian Army female team won the gold medal in the marathon race while the Nigeria Police came second.

The Fire Service, male team category defeated the Nigeria Custom Service in the tug of war competition.

The event also witnessed cultural displays from the Oyo State cultural troupe and match past from the 17 zonal commands and Force Headquarters.
