The Executive Secretary of Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, Muideen Olatunji, on Friday called for collective action among various stakeholders to ensure full realisation of women’s right, opportunities and aspirations so as to reduce poverty in the society.
He made this call during an awareness programme for pregnant women and nursing mothers, held at Agbongbon Primary Health Care Centre, in the Ibadan South East Local Government Area of the state.
Olatunji said there must be collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that all women, irrespective of socioeconomic status, have access to the services they needed.
He further called for continued funding of health care, improve infrastructure, and training of health workers so as to provide them quality services.
“There is the need for collaboration among various stakeholders to ensure full realisation of women’s right, opportunities and aspirations so as to reduce poverty in the society. So, I want to call on all stakeholders; the government, the private sector, and the civil society organization to ensure that we place health care services for women as top priority. By working together, we can make a real difference in the lives of women and girls.
“We are reminded that health is not only a fundamental human right, but also a prerequisite for achieving gender equality. When women have access to health care services, they can take control of their lives and futures. They can be healthy, educated, productive, and active in their communities. They can take their rightful places in the economy and society.
“We have a moral and economic imperative to ensure that all women and girls have access to the health care services they needed. And we know that investing in women’s health is one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty, build strong economy, and improve social and political stability.” He explained.
In his remark, the representative of the Society for Family Health and the Coordinator of the awareness campaign, Abiroh Sebastine, said to ensure that women have access to quality health care services is not only the right thing to do, but it is also an investment in the future.
He said, “When women have access to information and services, they are empowered to make decisions about their own health, and this can have a ripple effect on the health of their families and communities.
“We hope that this campaign will inspire others to join the fight for women’s health, and to make sure that every woman has the opportunity to lead a healthy and productive life.” He stated.
Sebastine added that the campaign was aimed to raise awareness about the importance of women’s health, and to advocate for policies and programmes that will improve access to health care for women.
