A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and former Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Professor Adeolu Akande has urged the people of Oyo State to come out en masse on Saturday and vote for candidates of the APC in the 33 local government areas of the state.
Professor Akande at a meeting in Saki with party chieftains drawn from across the state during the week noted that the local council campaign that demonstrated that the APC is the party that is committed to autonomous local government administration which is the guarantee of development at the grassroots.
“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clearly shown during the campaigns that it does not believe in the autonomy of local councils and is poised to continue the way it had ran that level of government in the last five years.
“Unfortunately, that approach to local government administration cannot guarantee development at the grassroots. The state cannot develop with only one centre of development at the state level. It will however develop fast if all the 33 council areas are development centres with every council harnessing resources within its boundaries for development.
“I therefore call on the good people of Oyo State to come out en masse and vote for candidates of the APC who will deliver development at the grassroots”.
Prof Akande also called on the people to abide by the rules of the game and eschew any act that could participate violence or disturbance during the election.
