English Premier League side, Nottingham Forest have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho.

The 27-year-old sensational striker is now a free agent after his contract with Leicester City ran out last month, ending his seven-year stay at the King Power Stadium.

It was earlier reported that Unai Emery’s Aston Villa had sent representatives to discuss with the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner a possible move to Villa Park.

According to Football Insider, Nottingham Forest have also registered their interest in signing the former Manchester City striker, as they’re currently hunting for a striker in the transfer market.

Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran has reportedly agreed personal terms with Chelsea, turning the West Midlands club to Iheanacho as a backup option for Ollie Watkins, who recorded 19 goals and 13 assists in the English Premier League last season.

Only three teams scored fewer goals than Nottingham in the Premier League last season, two of which were relegated.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s injury problems have proven he cannot be relied upon all season by Nuno Espirito Santo, and the Reds have turned to Iheanacho to provide an option when the former Union Berlin striker is unavailable.

Iheanacho has scored 42 goals and provided 25 assists across 196 English Premier League games for Leicester City and Manchester City, averaging a goal contribution every hundred and seventeen minutes.

Forest were previously linked with Gambian striker Yankuba Minteh, but the 19-year-old opted to join Brighton and Hove Albion on a five-year deal for £33 million.
