As the Nigerian Super Falcons begin their Olympic journey against Brazil on Thursday, July 25th in Group C, the founder and President of Super Eagles Supporters Club (SESC) Prince Vincent Okumagba has arrived Bordeaux with large number of his men, mobilizing maximum support for the team.
Speaking via telephone conversation, the Prince of the Okumagba dynasty of Delta State said he has struck a very strong partnership with the Bordeaux based Chinedu Rosa of Vines by Rosa to organize Nigerians alongside the Super Eagles supporters club for the important match.
“I am also in touch with the Nigerian embassy as we need all hands to be on deck in our quest to provide the much needed moral support for the Super Falcons that will be playing along Brazil, Spain, and Japan in their challenging group, our girls will need to perform at their absolute best to advance to the knockout stages.”
Brazil defeated Nigeria 1-3 in their previous matchup at the 2008 Olympics, and Nigeria, the nine-time African champions who last competed in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in China in 2008 will be seeking revenge.
Nigeria’s most successful Women’s Olympic Football Tournament performance occurred in Athens 20 years ago, when the Super Falcons placed sixth after losing in the quarterfinals.
Veterans at this tournament, Brazil have appeared at every edition of the Olympics and came very close to winning gold medals twice before settling for a runners-up spot in 2004 and 2008.
